Summary

What our kickoff calls with Shell (Dr. Kuloyo + Hemshikha) are for, and questions each of us can bring so we're not walking in blind.

Key findings
  • What these meetings are for: Dr. Kuloyo explains the project in more depth, shows a demo (Hemshikha demos Shell's internal visualization tool - she holds the actual dataset), walks through data transfer logistics, and answers our questions. He also sets meeting cadence (usually biweekly).
  • General questions anyone can ask: What does "success" look like for their team by end of semester? What format does the data come in (spreadsheet, API, something else)? What should we prioritize first if we can't build everything at once?
  • For whoever leans QA/testing/architecture (e.g. Rory): What does their current internal visualization tool look like, and what's it built with? Are there specific accuracy or reliability concerns with the data we should test for?
  • For whoever leans design/visuals: Are there brand guidelines or an existing style we should match? Who's the actual audience - Shell staff, researchers, or the public?
  • For whoever leans data/backend: Is there already an API, or do we get raw files? How often does new data come in (real-time, daily, etc.)?
  • Don't have a question ready? That's fine - just listen for the demo and data transfer parts, those affect everyone's work directly.
