Summary

From Dr. Shuvo's COMP 4207 (Senior Design Project I, Fall 2026) lecture 1 slides - the actual grading breakdown and process for this class. Also confirms our Shell mentor's name: Dr. Kuloyo.

Key findings
  • Instructor: Dr. Md Hossain Shuvo (mhshuvo@pvamu.edu), office S.R. Collins #309. Office hours: Tue 11-1, Wed 3-4, Thu 11-1. Course meets in-person, New EE Building Room 137. eCourses: ecourses.pvamu.edu/courses/41627
  • Our Shell mentor's name is confirmed as Dr. Kuloyo (listed as mentor for all 3 Shell tracks: Measurement Innovation, Data Visualization, Predictive Analytics).
  • Grading breakdown (100% total): Weekly Progress Reports 10%, Topic Selection Report+Presentation 5%, Software Engineering Concept Presentation 10%, Literature Review Report+Presentation 25%, Preliminary Design Report+Presentation 25%, Preliminary Implementation Report+Presentation 25%.
  • Weekly progress reports: ONLY the team leader submits, due every Wednesday, presented in class. Leader collects updates from every member and allocates a contribution percentage per member (template provided) - inflating or being inconsistent with this risks a penalty for the leader. Do not present the percentage allocation itself in class.
  • IMPORTANT - flag for Raylen: the slide deck states "Project proposal presentations will be held on September 2nd" - that date has already passed (today is well after). Need to confirm with Dr. Shuvo directly whether the Shell-mentored teams are on a different timeline, since our team is still finalizing membership and hasn't had the kickoff call yet.
  • Literature review requires a citation manager (Zotero recommended).
  • Preliminary design must include: context model, use-case diagram, UML diagrams, algorithm design, and security design (data/model/network security).
  • Preliminary implementation must include: working prototype demo, algorithm implementation, system architecture walkthrough, testing/evaluation results, and honest discussion of challenges/limitations/remaining work.
  • Suggested team roles from the syllabus: Project Manager/Team Lead, Software Developer(s), QA/Tester(s), Designer/UX. Leader should collect a short statement from each member on how their expertise contributes.
