Summary

10% of grade, only the team leader (Raylen) submits, due Sep 23 11:59pm. Full text below — the real file is Week3_Progress_Report.docx, which Raylen has and submits as a PDF. A NOTE ON WEEKS 1-2: Our team was originally placed on a different capstone project at the start of the semester and was reassigned to the Shell NET-PVAMU Data Visualization project partway through. Because we were not working on this project during Weeks 1-2, we have no progress to report for those weeks and this is our first entry in this running doc. Raylen also emailed Dr. Shuvo with this same context so it doesn't read as a missing submission.

Key findings
  • Completed this period: held our first substantive requirements meeting with Shell sponsor mentors Dr. Kuloyo and Hemshikha on Monday, Sep 21 - covered project scope, available data (8 eddy-covariance flux tower datasets on the PVAMU farm, active since May 2023), and next steps.
  • Completed our existing-work review and gap analysis: compared our planned dashboard against consumer weather apps, the public FLUXNET portal, and Shell's internal visualization tools, and identified the specific gap (no accessible, mobile-friendly, historically-aware view of this farm's data).
  • Drafted and submitted the Existing Work / Problem Identification / Gap Analysis / Requirements and System Specification Report, including FR/NFR, system design diagrams, algorithm and database design, security design, and a Fall 2026 timeline.
  • Prepared and delivered our Round 2 Contribution and Requirement Analysis presentation.
  • In progress / current focus: coordinating with Shell on the mechanics of transferring data access (live API vs. historical export); finalizing task assignments (Raylen - architecture/ingestion API; Rory - database design/data validation; Alex - dashboard front-end/visualization).
  • Remaining / next steps: wireframes and data schema design; ingestion API and database prototype; dashboard front-end (charts, maps, trend views); alerting logic and accessibility pass; integration testing and usability review; Semester 1 demo and progress report (target: December 2026).
  • Challenges / dependencies: team reassignment mid-semester compressed our effective timeline - treating this week as our real "week 1" of substantive project work. Waiting on Shell to finalize the data-transfer mechanism before ingestion work can use real farm data - sponsor indicated a one-to-two-week delay here is normal and expected.
